Almost everything about being a duchess sounds pretty awesome to us. Wearing tiaras, going on royal trips, being widely beloved by the entire world: that all sounds amazing. The one thing that might lowkey break our hearts about becoming a member of the royal family would be being forced to give up our social media accounts for good. Which leads us to wonder: does Meghan Markle miss Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram?

During her Australian royal tour with husband Prince Harry, she finally answered that question once and for all. Believe it or not, she actually called it “freeing” to not be connected to her millions of adoring fans online anymore. While chatting with Sydney’s Bondi Beach local Jessina Oakes, 26, Meghan reportedly said that she thinks the internet and constant connection is putting too much pressure on young people, and is hurting self-esteem.

“She said a really beautiful quote,” revealed Jessica to The Independent. “She said: ‘Flattery and criticism run through the same filter.’ She said it was very freeing that she no longer has social media.” That’s certainly surprising, as Meghan was a fairly avid user of multiple platforms before they were all deleted following her engagement.

Meghan had nearly two million followers across Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. She even had her own lifestyle blog The Tig, which she carefully and passionately worked on and curated for years before shutting it down in April 2017 to focus on her new life as a soon-to-be duchess.

Perhaps her recent pregnancy announcement helped her put things in perspective, and begin to feel differently about the online platforms, which can often be home to bullying and feelings of not being good enough for young people who constantly see the “perfect” lives of peers in their feed and feel like they can’t measure up. Although, when their baby becomes 12 years old or so, we bet they’ll feel a little differently!
