Since filing for divorce back in December, HGTV stars Tarek and Christina El Moussa have had their fair share of drama, but now the estranged spouses are joining forces professionally to executive produce a new show. Chi-Town Flip will follow husband and wife team Bryan and Maira Segal as they transform homes in Chicago, using the same model as Tarek and Christina’s successful series, Flip or Flop. This will be the first show launched by the production company the El Moussa’s formed last year before separating.

Tarek took to Instagram over the weekend to announce the exciting news and wrote, “When we first met Bryan and Mayra[sic] at our Success Path house flipping school, they hadn’t even flipped a home yet! We saw their hard work and dedication which reminded us where we started. Today they are super successful house flippers in Chicago. I can say we are great friends and it was a pleasure executive producing their pilot.”

In Touch previously reported that the reality stars endured a highly publicized split following a domestic altercation in which police responded to “a call of a possibly suicidal male with a gun.” However, Tarek said that overnight fame, two children, and his long battle with cancer ultimately pushed the two apart.

“It has absolutely been a challenge, and some of it has been truly ridiculous,” Tarek told Variety. He added, “I would not wish it on anyone.”

However, Tarek admitted that the two work well together as business partners and are going to continue to be the best parents to their children, Taylor and Brayden. “To be honest, it has been tough. And we have had our moments,” He continued, “But, again, I just keep reminding myself that we are co-parents to two beautiful kids. We owe it to them to be as amicable as we can be. They deserve nothing less… Our number one priority is our kids. We are continuing to work together to be great parents — we are going to work together as parents for the rest of our lives. In business, we are continuing to film ‘Flip or Flop’ and are conducting our real estate seminars together. But we each have personal projects we are looking into too. We’ll just have to see how things unfold.”

As for how he feels about working behind the camera for the first time? “I am really excited about creating new shows, even those that I don’t appear in,” he said. “I’ve always loved venturing out and trying new things and executive producing gets me out of my comfort zone, which is great.”
