Celebrities Who Came Out In 2021: List of LGBTQ Stars

Wave the rainbow flag high in the sky! June is National Pride Month so we’ve rounded up all the A-listers who came out as part of the LGBTQ community in 2021.

Stars like Demi Lovato, Colton Underwood and many more announced this year that they were part of the pride community, and they couldn’t be prouder! These celebrities decided to be true to themselves and be open about their identities.

While many celebs such Lili Reinhart and Elliot Page came out in 2020, this year is no different, with many stars announcing that they were out and proud!

Lili, 24, announced in June 2020 via an Instagram post that she was bisexual. “Although I’ve never announced it publicly before, I’m a proud bisexual woman,” the Riverdale star wrote at the time.

The Cleveland native further elaborated on her decision to speak publicly in an interview with GLAAD’s LGBTQ&A podcast. “I’ve wanted people to know that I am bisexual, but I’ve never felt that there was a right time to do it. I was afraid of coming out,” Lili said. “I didn’t want people to tell me that I was lying to get attention or something. And so I just kept my mouth shut. I also I’ve told people in the past and they’ve told me, ‘Oh, it’s a phase.’ And I’m like, ‘OK, great, thanks.’ So that’s discouraging, obviously.”

In December 2020, Elliot, 34, made the important decision to announce that he was transgender. “I feel overwhelming gratitude for the incredible people who have supported me along this journey,” he wrote on Instagram. “I can’t begin to express how remarkable it feels to finally love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self. I’ve been endlessly inspired by so many in the trans community … I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they, and my name is Elliot.”

The X-Men actor also made history in March 2021 when he became the first transgender man to appear on the cover of Time magazine.

Courtney Stodden

Courtney Stodden revealed they were non-binary in April. The Celebrity Big Brother alum, 26, wrote on Instagram, “They/them/theirs. I don’t identify as she or her. I’ve never felt like I ever fit in anywhere. I was bullied horribly in school because I was different. The other girls never understood me. It got so bad that my mom pulled me out of school. And still, I don’t fit in. I never really connected with anyone my age.”

They continued, “My spirit is fluid with a kaleidoscope of color.” On May 28, the reality star announced they were engaged to boyfriend Chris Sheng.

Lio Tipton

America’s Next Top Model contestant Lio Tipton came out as queer and non-binary in June.

“Hi. My name is Lio. My pronouns are they/them,” the 32-year-old model shared on social media. “I am proud to announce I am queer and I identify as non-binary.” The Crazy Stupid Love star added, “I hope to give as much love and support back to those who continue to show love and support for the Pride community at large.”

Demi Lovato

Demi, 28, came out as non-binary and will now use they/them pronouns. The “Cool for the Summer” singer revealed the news on their new podcast, “4D with Demi Lovato,” in May 2021. “I feel that this best represents the fluidity I feel in my gender expression and allows me to feel most authentic and true to the person I both know I am, and am still discovering,” they said.

In a March 2021 interview on the “Joe Rogan Experience” podcast, Demi announced they are pansexual. “[I like] anything, really,” they said. “I heard someone call the LGBTQIA+ community ‘the alphabet mafia.’ … That’s it! That’s what I’m going with. I’m part of the alphabet mafia and proud.”

Colton Underwood

Colton, 29, was affectionately known as the “Virgin Bachelor” during his time on the ABC dating series, The Bachelor, in 2019. He began dating Cassie Randolph in November 2018 and they broke up in May 2020. In April, the former football player came out as gay in an interview with Robin Roberts on Good Morning America. “I’ve ran from myself for a long time. I’ve hated myself for a long time. And I’m gay. And I came to terms with that earlier this year and have been processing it. And the next step in all of this was sort of letting people know,” Colton said.

JoJo Siwa

YouTuber JoJo Siwa took to Twitter in January and posted a photo of herself wearing a T-shirt that said, “Best. Gay. Cousin. Ever.” The vlogger,18, then revealed during her February appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that she is in a relationship with girlfriend Kylie Prew. “I do have the most amazing, wonderful, perfect, most beautiful girlfriend in the whole world,” JoJo dished. “It’s not something I’m ashamed of. I just haven’t shown the Internet yet.”

2021 Billboard Music Awards Kehlani

In April, Kehlani came out as a lesbian on Tik Tok. The 26-year-old singer said in her video, “I am gay, gay, gay. … I finally know I’m a lesbian.” She previously spoke about her sexuality in a 2018 tweet, writing, “Cuz I keep [getting] asked … I’m queer. Not bi, not straight. I’m attracted to women, men, REALLY attracted to queer men, non-binary people, intersex people, trans people.”
