It seems like there really was trouble in paradise for Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra! Despite shutting down divorce rumors earlier this year, the Teen Mom OG couple might have actually hit a real rough patch in their relationship and sources are confirming that the couple did spend some time apart.
"They definitely did take a break for a very short amount of time, privately," an insider revealed to Radar Online. "They did it just to figure things out so Cate could find out who she is outside of her mental illness."
The source revealed that they split after Tyler had finally admitted to his wife that he "wasn’t happy" and that "he hadn’t been for a long time." It's unclear how long their split was, but now the couple is together and are "working on their relationship" and are "slowly getting to a better place."
"Even on a break, they didn’t want to date other people," the source said. "Tyler has been kind of quiet about their current status, but that’s because they have been filming."
Rumors about their split and a possible divorce started swirling back in May when an eagle-eyed fan posted on reddit that Cate changed the last name in her Instagram bio from "Baltierra" back to her maiden name, "Lowell" — sparking rumors they might have called it quits after all these years.
However, Catelynn denied the divorce rumors on Instagram — and changed her last name back to "Baltierra" shortly after. "Tyler and I are not getting divorced," she shared. "Couples go through ups and downs that’s normal life. We are a solid couple that will work through anything life throws at us!" Tyler's cryptic poetry on social media seem to tell a different story...

Over the years, things haven't been easy for the longtime lovers — from cheating rumors, to a miscarriage and Catelynn's multiple rehab stints. The mother-of-two has been open in the past about her struggles with mental health woes and drug use — though today, she says she is sober and doing just fine. On the other hand, Tyler sparked concern amongst fans after sharing a series of emotional posts on Instagram. The famous father's friend told Radar back in April he was even considering his own treatment, though Tyler denied that was the case.
Fans got to watch an emotional scene between Cate and Ty during last season of TMOG where Cate admitted that she was afraid her husband would leave if she went back to rehab. "I didn’t even want to tell you that I thought about going back to treatment cause I was like 'I wouldn’t blame Tyler,' like, it’s your say if you want to just divorce me," she tearfully told him. At the time, Ty was worried that how she was feeling had something to do with him and their relationship, though she assured him that wasn't the case.
