It’s been five years since country starlet Mindy McCready shot herself on the porch of her house in Heber Springs, AR. Now, her tragic death is being revisited in REELZ Channel’s Autopsy: Mindy McCready. In an exclusive preview for the upcoming TV special, pathologist Dr. Michael Hunter suggests that Mindy’s decision to commit suicide might have stemmed from her tumultuous personal life. Check it out in the video above.

“Mindy’s life has been chaotic and and dysfunctional in so many ways for so long. I believe their must be multiple factors in her decision to kill herself,” Dr. Hunter says in the sneak peek, explaining that the death of Mindy’s boyfriend, David Wilson — who shot himself in January 2013 — could have catapulted her into a deep depression, but might not have been the catalyst to “trigger her suicide.”

In the clip above, journalist Steve Helling details a disturbing event that allegedly occurred days before the “You’ll Never Know” singer — who was mom to sons Zander, now 11, and Zane, now 5 — died. According to Helling, Mindy’s father, Tim, and his wife, Terry, traveled from Florida to check on the troubled musician at her home in Arkansas. “Tim, her father, he could see that there are guns in the house. But they’re not locked in a cabinet somewhere,” he says. “They’re just lying out in a house where there is a woman who’s in mourning and possibly depressed and little kids.”

Elsewhere in Autopsy, experts weigh in on Mindy’s reportedly unhealthy relationship with prescription drugs and how it may have exacerbated an undiagnosed mental condition, leading her to plan her own death. Her friend, Shawn Carnes, also offers testimony about Mindy’s final days.

Autopsy: Mindy McCready airs Sunday, Feb. 18, at 8 p.m. EST on REELZ.
