‘90210’ Star Shannen Doherty Responds to News of Luke Perry’s Stroke: ‘He’s My Dylan’
After Luke Perry suffered a “massive” stroke on February 27, his costars immediately prayed for a speedy recovery. That includes Shannen Doherty, who famously played his love interest, Brenda Walsh, on 90210.
“I can’t talk about it here ‘cause I will literally start crying, but I love him and he knows I love him,” the 47-year-old told Entertainment Tonight at an event in Los Angeles on Sunday, March 3. “It’s Luke, and he’s my Dylan.”
The Tennessee native admitted that she’s been “in contact” with the actor since the incident. She also recommended that friends and family should “just keep [sending] positive, wonderful thoughts” his way during this time period.
The L.A. Fire Department confirmed to In Touch that they “responded to a 911 call at 9:30 a.m.” at the 52-year-old’s Sherman Oaks, California, house. Even though they couldn’t reveal the person’s identity, they noted that they were “transported in an ambulance to a nearby hospital.”
“Family members scrambled to the hospital and are by his side,” an insider told In Touch at the time. “He was fortunate that he wasn’t alone at his home and help arrived quickly.” The source added, “They are monitoring his vital signs. It’s too early to know if he will make a full recovery.”
Coincidentally, Luke’s medical crisis happened on the same day that the Beverly Hills, 90210 reboot was announced by Fox. Luke and Shannen are the only two that have not officially signed on for the project yet.
Of course, his Riverdale and 90210 family couldn’t help but write sweet notes for him on social media. “My friend. Holding you tight and giving you my strength. You got this,” Shannen said on Instagram. “Sending my love to Luke Perry,” Molly Ringwald tweeted. Ian Ziering also shared a throwback photo of himself kissing Luke on the cheek. “No words can express what my heart feels hearing today’s shocking news. Let us say a prayer for his speedy recovery.”
Clearly, Luke is loved by so many people. We are keeping him in our thoughts during this hard time.
