She’s setting the record straight! 90 Day Fiancé fans got to witness Jon’s sweet proposal to Rachel during Season 2 of 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days, but fans may notice that Rachel is currently wearing an engagement ring that looks different from the one Jon proposed with. Rachel took to Instagram over the weekend to clear up the confusion, and she had a perfectly good — and hilarious — explanation as to why she’s wearing a different engagement ring.

“The story behind the rings – Yes, I said ringS [sic],” the 33-year-old wrote on Instagram. “The ring you see here is the one Jon proposed with.”

The story behind the rings – Yes, I said ringS. The ring you see here, is the one Jon proposed with. It should come as no surprise that Jon and I have discussed marriage in great length over the 1 ½  years of our online relationship. We knew we wanted to be together before ever having touched. He even asked me to marry him on a video call, I said yes and he asked me to put the Claddagh ring, he sent months before, on my left hand. However, shortly after the ‘engagement’ we both felt something wasn’t right. We knew an engagement needed to be sealed with a kiss after physically meeting and a REAL proposal needed to be done in person, assuring that we both wanted to be together forever, after having met officially. So, our ‘virtual engagement’ was called off. After meeting, and just when I thought he was not going to propose after all, he surprised me with that fairytale proposal off of a cliff at Tintagel overlooking the ocean. As far as rings go, I did NOT want a diamond – If something terrible were to ever happen to something so expensive, I’d never forgive myself. Besides, I’d wear a rubber band around my finger if I had to, if it meant I was Jon’s fiancé. That being said, Jon proposed on TV with a beautiful White Sapphire ring in a White Gold setting. It was absolutely beautiful! Notice that I said it “was”… Only a month after arriving back home from England, that ring accidentally fell into a running garbage disposal while I was washing dishes. It is with a heavy heart that I say.. it did not survive ☹ After days of crying and emotionally beating myself up for allowing that to happen, even though it were an accident, Jon surprised me with a new ring via another package, within days of the tragedy. Knowing this new ring could never replace what he proposed with, I still wear my Cubic Zirconia in a White Gold setting with pride (picture to come later)! I’m in love with its beauty and I wouldn’t trade it for a real diamond if someone gave me one. So, the ring you you’ll be seeing on any, and all, future episodes should be the one I currently wear. Which I’ve learned to love just as much. And I put it away when I was dishes now 😐 #BeforeThe90Days

She explained that since she and Jon had been together for a year and a half before they met in person for the first time, they had plenty of time to talk about marriage and getting engaged. She revealed that at one point, before they met in person, Jon proposed to Rachel over the phone and she said yes, and shortly after, he sent her a Claddagh ring in the mail which she wore on her left ring finger.

“However, shortly after the ‘engagement,’ we both felt something wasn’t right. We knew an engagement needed to be sealed with a kiss after physically meeting and a REAL [sic] proposal needed to be done in person, assuring that we both wanted to be together forever, after having met officially,” Rachel continued. “So, our ‘virtual engagement’ was called off. After meeting, and just when I thought he was not going to propose, after all, he surprised me with that fairytale proposal off of a cliff at Tintagel overlooking the ocean.”

She went on to explain that the ring Jon proposed with at Tintagel was a gorgeous white sapphire stone in a white gold setting because she personally did not feel comfortable with a diamond engagement ring for fear ruining the ring or losing it.

“Only a month after arriving back home from England, that ring accidentally fell into a running garbage disposal while I was washing dishes. It is with a heavy heart that I say… it did not survive,” she revealed. But Jon quickly replaced her ring and sent her a new one, which features a cubic zirconia stone.
