Twitter is officially going crazy over Kim Kardashian and Jeffree Star’s epic makeup feud. But who is Jeffree Star and what’s the deal with the whole feud anyway?

Who is Jeffree Star?

Born Jeffrey Lynn Steininger, Jeffree Star is a makeup artist and Instagram star. Back in the day, Jeffree became famous on Myspace and soon launched a modeling and singing career. After creating a cosmetics line in 2014, he quickly became a huge success in the makeup industry. Jeffree was caught in a major controversy a few years back surrounding his use of racial slurs. He made a video apologizing for his actions.

What started the feud with Kim Kardashian?

After the 31-year-old makeup artist took to Twitter to diss Kimmy’s swatches of her latest addition to the KKW Beauty franchise, a powder contour kit, the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star’s fans and followers quickly fired back and pretty much freaked out.

“Ummm… Kim what is going on with those new swatches??” the beauty influencer wrote on Twitter with a screenshot of the swatches Kim put on her Snapchat. “Looks like chalk.” Needless to say, the people of the Twitterverse quickly came to Kim’s defense and accused Jeffree of causing drama.

Though we’re sure Mrs. West appreciated the support, she quickly responded on Snapchat and quickly sprung to the YouTuber’s defense. “I see that my fans are totally hating on someone like Jeffree Star for being honest about my struggle swatches. But because of his remarks, I’m learning,” she said in the video.

Not only did Kim defend Jeffree’s right to criticize her swatching, she also told her followers to stop scrutinizing his past. Back in 2016, videos surfaced of Jeffree making racist remarks. He apologized for the comments, but fans feel that Kim let him off the hook for his racism.

“Guys, I see you being so petty and bringing up things in his past where he was negative,” she said. “But, he’s also apologized for those things and I get it’s a serious deal if you say racial things. But, I do believe in people changing and people that apologize; I will give them the benefit of the doubt and accept and change and move on. And, I know better than anyone that I hate when people bring up my past, or mistakes that I’ve made in the past… I welcome honest comments about my products.”

Fans accused Kim of making light of Jeffree’s racist comments. She has come forward and apologized for defending the makeup artist.

“So I really wanted to apologize to you guys and my fans for defending a situation yesterday that I really didn’t know enough about,” she said. “I just feel a bit naïve, and I do want to really apologize for me feeling like I had the right to say ‘get over it’ in a situation that involves racism.”
