Now that’s a royal love story! Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are officially engaged after a whirlwind romance that started just over a year ago. And while royal spectators can’t wait for their spring wedding, many are curious as to how the fifth in line to the British throne met the stunning American actress.
Well, it turns out the couple was introduced by their mutual friend and fashion designer Misha Nonoo. In her interview with Vanity Fair, Meghan, 36, was very coy with details just mentioning that a friend set her up with the 33-year-old prince in July 2016. However, that friend’s identity has since been revealed.
“We were introduced, actually, by a mutual friend — we’ll protect her privacy — but it was literally through her and we met once and then twice, back-to-back, two dates in London last July, beginning of July, and then it was about three, maybe four weeks later that I managed to persuade her to join me in Botswana,” Harry told the BBC shortly after their engagement was announced. When asked if it was a set-up, Meghan responded, “Yes, it was definitely a set-up — it was a blind date.”
So how did Misha and Meghan meet? According to Vanity Fair, they met in Miami through another mutual friend and hit it off right away. “Her greatest strength is her compassion for others,” Misha said. “Much of the work she does is unseen by the public.” Misha is married to Etonian Alexander Gilkes, who just happen to go to school with Prince William and Harry and attended the wedding of William and Kate Middleton. Small world, right?
As for what Meghan needed to know about Prince Harry before agreeing to meet the son of the late Princess Diana — she only had one question for her gal pal. “When she wanted to set us up I had one question — ‘Is he nice?’ Because if he wasn’t kind then it didn’t seem like it would make sense,” she said. “So we went and met for a drink and very quickly into that we were asking what the other was doing tomorrow.”
Now, we just need to know if Misha is designing her royal wedding dress! Congrats to the happy couple!
