Travis Kelce Outbursts: His Anger Moments During Football Games

Travis Kelce can’t always “shake it off” when he gets angry on the football field. During the 2024 Super Bowl on February 11, 2024, the tight end went viral for a heated moment where he yelled in Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid’s face and appeared to shove him. While some viewers chalked Travis’ behavior up to the stress of falling behind in the game, others thought his outburst was unacceptable.

Andy assured fans that Travis didn’t hurt him and that there was no bad blood between them. In fact, he praised the football star’s passion. However, the coach also admitted hours before the Super Bowl that Travis had a “temper” and sometimes did “crazy things” on the field.

Super Bowl Screaming Match

Travis made headlines for a brief moment on the sidelines at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas during Super Bowl LVIII. The Chiefs had been trailing behind the San Francisco 49ers, and Travis shoved and screamed at Andy, presumably over a call the coach made for not putting Travis in the game. However, Andy told reporters after the Chiefs’ overtime win that Travis got caught up in the “emotional” day.

“He loves to play the game and he wants to help his team win, and it’s not a selfish thing. It sounds like it is, and I understand that,” Andy said. “You know, he bumps into me, I get after him, and we understand that. He just caught me off balance.”

Travis also brushed off the incident, declining to tell ESPN’s Booger McFarland what he was yelling at Andy. “Man, I’m gonna keep it between us. I was just telling him how much I love him,” he said.

Christmas Day Meltdown

The Chiefs struggled in their Christmas Day 2023 home game against the Las Vegas Raiders, which resulted in a 20 to 14 loss. During the first half of the match, Travis was seen getting frustrated and launching his helmet at the ground. He later expressed disappointment in his actions after he had a talk with Andy on the sidelines.

“[Andy’s] looking out for me, and I love him for it. I didn’t go back out there and play good,” Travis told brother Jason Kelce on their “New Heights” podcast on December 27, 2023. “He wanted to see the fire in me and I reacted in a bad way. He wanted to just get the best out of me, and right now I’m just not playing my best football and I gotta f–king lock the f–k in, be more accountable for him, be more accountable for my teammates. I gotta keep my f–king cool because as a leader on this team that’s not how you switch the momentum.”

Rage Against the Raiders

Something about the Las Vegas Raiders definitely brings out the fire in Travis, but not always in a good way. He was involved in a scuffle with the opposing team’s Amik Robertson and Jerry Tillery after his teammate Rashee Rice was tackled to the ground during a November 2023 away game. The players shoved each other a few times before referees and Travis’ teammates stepped in to pull him away.

Discussing why he got into the brief fight, Travis told Jason on their podcast, “I think when you tackle a guy you shouldn’t try and rip the ball out when the guy’s on the ground, the play’s over, why are we doing that?”

Training Camp Tussle

Travis’ temper isn’t reserved only for opposing players — he’s also been involved in altercations with his own teammates. During training camp in July 2023, Travis threw a punch at a teammate, and it was reportedly one of multiple skirmishes.

Andy publicly addressed the issue, calling the fighting a “waste of time.”

“You get thrown out of games doing it, you get hurt out here doing it. They’re going to jaw a little bit. Just as long as there are not punches thrown, we’re all right,” he said.

Travis apologized for the scuffles on Twitter and promised that he would “be a better leader and a better teammate” at camp from then on.
