He may be busy studying for law school finals, but Derick Dillard is still making plenty of time for his friends and family — and, apparently, to learn Nepali! In a new blog post shared by Jill Duggar, the mom-of-two revealed that she and her husband spent some time with their Nepalese friends recently. Though Derick may have skipped the Duggar family’s ugly Christmas sweater party so that he could concentrate on his studies, he was able to clear a couple hours to enjoy some momos.
“When Derick lived in Nepal, he enjoyed momos (Nepali dumplings) on a regular basis,” the former Counting On stars revealed. “Usually you could get chicken, vegetable or buff (water buffalo) momos at any of the local restaurants. Here in Arkansas though, momos are hard to find. Our sweet Nepali friends invited us over for homemade momos not long ago and they were so good (Sam had 6!)!!!”
But Jill also revealed something else in the blog post. “We always love the fellowship and it’s fun for Derick to practice his Nepali language skills too,” she shared. She even included this video where you can see the families hanging out and talking together. If you listen carefully, you can hear them speaking Nepali, and Derick nodding and laughing along.
Of course, Nepal holds a special place in the Dillards’ hearts, and it makes sense that the father-of-two speaks the language after living there for a few years. It must’ve been nice for him to get a chance to brush up on the language — and it’s good exercise for his brain even when he’s taking a study break. What we’re obsessed with, though, is seeing just how much Sam loves momos as he gobbles them up in one of Jill’s other videos. We’re glad that the family is sharing their experiences with their kids. And hey, maybe one day when the boys are old enough, they’ll all make the trip back together.
