Major cringe. Shawn Mendes is under fire after he totally ignored a fan’s question during a Q&A session before his Tampa show on Saturday, July 27. An eager concertgoer asked the singer what inspired him to write “Señorita,” to which Shawn responded by walking off stage. Awkward, much?

After repeating the question to himself, the singer stood up and said to the crowd, “I love you guys have a great time!” as the gaggle of girls erupted in laughter. I think at this point we all know who the popular song is about. * Cough. Cough. Camila Cabello. Cough. * Although when people heard about the abrupt exit, they were quick to say the star was rude, though he claims his actions were well-intended.

In a now-deleted tweet, Shawn addressed that hubbub stating, “Hey! There was no bad intention here. If you were there, you would have known it was the last question & that’s why I decided to turn it into a lighthearted funny goodbye! Sorry if that upset anyone, I adore you guys! No need for any negativity ❤️.”  The star followed up writing, “I love you guys!!!”

Despite his point of clarification, his actions still riled up the Twitterverse. “Just imagine spending a lot of money to ask him a question, waiting till your turn and that he just ignores you,” said one user. Other tweets read, “People spend their hard-earned money to attend his Q&As, and he doesn’t even answer questions about his damn job?! This is pure madness. The purpose of the Q&A is to give the opportunity to the fans to ask him about his music, and now he refuses to answer. I am disappointed. Sorry.”

Shawn and Camila have been known to get very passionate during their duet, “Señorita”. Although the couple has yet to confirm that they are an item, the multitude of paparazzi photos of the two smooching-it-up say otherwise. No wonder he didn’t want to answer the question.
