Shawn Mendes Talks Hailey Baldwin Romance And Sexuality Rumors

Spilling the tea! Shawn Mendes is only 20 years old and already has accomplished more than most teens. He has toured with Taylor Swift, gone to the Met Gala, and even had three number one albums on the music charts. Now, the musician is addressing his sexuality and what exactly happened between him and former fling, Hailey Baldwin.

When Hailey and Shawn posed on the carpet for the Met Gala, they told everyone that they were just friends, but that was far from the truth. He told Rolling Stone magazine that you “can’t control your heart” when talking about his relationship with Hailey. When he was asked about what exactly happened between the two of them, Shawn confessed, “I don’t even wanna put a title on it. I think it was more of a zone of limbo.”

Hailey, 22, is now married to Justin Bieber and luckily, Shawn isn’t mad about it, even though she did unfollow him from Instagram. “I get it, you know. I texted Hailey, ‘Congratulations,’ and I really am happy for them. She’s still one of the f—king coolest people ever — she’s not just a beautiful person visually, but she’s one of the most beautiful hearts I’ve ever met.”

The “Stitches” singer also knows that there have been rumors about his sexuality over the past five years. “In the back of my heart, I feel like I need to go be seen with someone — like a girl — in public, to prove to people that I’m not gay. Even though in my heart I know that it’s not a bad thing. There’s still a piece of me that thinks that. And I hate that side of me,” he said.

He kept reading YouTube comments about his sexuality over the past few years and it really got to him. He said, “I thought, ‘You f—king guys are so lucky I’m not actually gay and terrified of coming out.’ That’s something that kills people. That’s how sensitive it is. Do you like the songs? Do you like me? Who cares if I’m gay?”

Taylor even asked Shawn if she could post a behind the scenes clip of them hanging out backstage at her Reputation tour, where she applied glitter to Shawn’s face. However, Shawn said he “felt sick” once it was online. In the end, Shawn was happy that she posted the video because he admits that he is “a little more feminine” and “that’s why I am me.”
