Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Are ‘Disappointed’ They Have to Give Up ‘Sussex’ Titles
A set back. Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, are “disappointed” they have to relinquish their “Sussex Royal” titles, a source exclusively tells In Touch. The couple “spent months of hard work developing the brand and not only that, it set them back tens of thousands of dollars,” the insider claims. “Rebranding is going to cost them a fortune.”
The news about their titles was confirmed by a Buckingham Palace spokesperson on Friday, February 21. The dynamic duo will now have to choose a different title for their upcoming non-profit organization and adjust their account usernames on all social media platforms. Furthermore, any trademark applications filed by the pair will be removed.
It won’t be long until this change goes into effect as “The Duke and Duchess do not intend to use ‘SussexRoyal’ in any territory post spring 2020,” according to the statement.
Even though Harry, 35, and Meghan, 38, previously announced they were “stepping back as ‘senior’ members” of the royal family and striving to “become financially independent,” they apparently weren’t expecting this reaction.
Despite everything that’s happened, “they are trying not to dwell on the decision and remain confident that they’ll still make it in North America,” the source tells In Touch exclusively. Now that Meghan and Harry reside in Canada, Queen Elizabeth also felt it “wasn’t necessary for them to continue using the word ‘Royal’ in their branding.”
“The way the Queen sees it, you’re either in or you’re out of the family, and Harry and Meghan will be officially out in April,” the insider adds.
Back in January, her Royal Highness, 93, released a statement showing her support to the pair after they opened up about their future plans. “Following many months of conversations and more recent discussions, I am pleased that together we have found a constructive and supportive way forward for my grandson and his family,” the message posted on Harry and Meghan’s joint Instagram account read. “Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved members of my family.”
Luckily, it looks like the former Suits star is embracing this next chapter of her life. “She’s relieved to finally have some freedom — to do whatever she wants without the royals watching her every move,” a source previously told In Touch. “She’s driving again, doing the grocery shopping, running errands and that kind of thing.”
