She’s clearing the air! Back in June 2018, a then-pregnant Kat Von D revealed to her fans on Twitter that there was “no way” she was going to vaccinate her baby. Now that her first child, Leafar, is 3 months old, however, the world-famous tattoo artist, 37, is changing her tune. Taking to YouTube, Kat filmed a vulnerable video that she hopes will bring “some much-needed clarity.”

“I am not an anti-vaxxer … what I am is a first-time mother. I’m one of those moms that reads everything,” the inked up mama began. “I read everything from ingredients in foods to cleaning supplies to medicines. Basically, anything that is going in my baby or on my baby. I research like a complete and total nerd.”

“After doing a bunch of research and reading the ingredients [of vaccines], naturally, I experienced some hesitancy,” Kat continued. “If I would’ve known that I would’ve let so many people down with that, I would’ve never ever shared where we were at with it at that time.”

The Miami Ink alum then went on to reveal how she and husband Rafael Reyes ultimately came to decide what’s best for their child. “Since then, we have decided as parents to consult with our pediatrician and just let him educate us and guide us,” she added. “I am choosing not to make our decision — or any of our baby’s health records — public.” At no point during the 11-minute video did Kat reveal whether or not she vaccinated Leafar.

Shortly after concluding her message on vaccinations, Kat shared an open letter she wrote to her followers — specifically those who sent “so much hate” her way. “Some of the comments I got were so cruel and hurtful, I hope none of you ever have to go through that. We all experience so much negativity on a daily basis as is … there’s really no reason to add more hate to anyone’s plate.”
