Kanye West had an emotional new year — as he took his wife Kim Kardashian and two young children North, 3, and Saint, 1, to the grave of his late mother, Donda West.

The Wests were spotted touching down in LA after a whirlwind trip to Oklahoma City, where his mother is laid to rest.

According to TMZ it was the first time not only the children, but also his wife visited Donda’s resting place.

Kanye was incredibly close with his mother, who died in 2007 after complications from an elective, cosmetic surgery. He became involved in lawmaking after her death, and helped passed a bill known as Donda’s Law which requires patients to undergo a physical before plastic surgery.

Back in 2014 — when North was only an infant — he said it was his “biggest regret in life” that his mother never got to meet his daughter.

“These past 10 years have been amazing,” he told the crowd during a stop on his Yeezus tour. ‘There’s some ups and downs. I made some mistakes and I’ve made some accomplishments. There’s only one thing I regret — there’s only one thing I wish I could change out of everything that’s ever happened. I wish that my mother could’ve met my daughter.”

Even though they never met, Kanye has previously revealed that his daughter feels a special connection to her late grandma.

Back in July, he tweeted a pic with his mother and wrote, “Nori asked if the airplane could take her to heaven to see you for you birthday, I love you mom.”

Nori and Donda are also the subjects of Kanye’s deeply personal song, “Only One,” which Kim has described as her favorite. In the beautiful song, Kanye sings as Donda and begs her son to “tell Nori about me” — and it seems like he did.
