Losing a pregnancy is hard enough, but it’s even worse when you have to watch your friend carry a healthy baby at the exact same time you would have been. On February 21, Jessa Duggar finally showed off her baby bump, but the exciting occasion became bittersweet when she revealed that her sister-in-law Lauren Swanson was supposed to have the same due date as her before suffering a miscarriage. Jessa began by explaining that she’s 25 weeks along, and certainly not taking her pregnancy for granted. “As we look forward to meeting our baby, we’re also feeling an exceptional amount of grief over my brother Josiah [Duggar] and sister-in-law Lauren’s loss of their baby,” she said. “My heart aches for them. I weep when I think of how difficult it must be for her to see me pregnant in the very stages where she would’ve been.”

Jessa went on to explain that it’s killing her to see some of the insensitive things people have said to Lauren, whether it be to try to give her “reasons of explanations, not realizing that their unsolicited opinions might be very painful, like salt to a wound,” or by trying to fill silences with unnecessary words. “Often times, ‘I love you and I’m praying for you’ along with a hug are quite sufficient,” she explained.

Still, Lauren has shown amazing grace when it comes to dealing with her tragedy. “I am amazed by her graciousness,” gushed Jessa. On top of that, Lauren has repeatedly set aside her heartache to offer to help Jessa in any way possible, whether it’s making a meal or watching her two boys. What a sweetheart!

In early February, the couple announced the tragic news that they lost their baby in October 2018. “A couple months ago, we found out that we were expecting, but suddenly thereafter, we lost our baby,” Lauren revealed in the clip. Josiah added, “It really was a hard time for our family going through this right after we got married. And all the dreams of getting to see our little one and hold it in our hands dashed before our eyes.” We’re so glad that they have so much love and support from their family in this difficult time.
