Missing Wisconsin Teen Whose Parents Were Shot Dead ‘May Have Been Seen’ 1,700 Miles Away
Authorities continue their search for Wisconsin teen, Jayme Closs, who was declared “missing and endangered” after her parents were shot dead in their home. A recent tweet by the Miami Police Department, however, reveals a possible lead in her disappearance.
The Miami PD wrote on Twitter that a girl matching Jayme’s description “may have been seen” that afternoon in the city — approximately 1,750 miles from her home. “If it was her, she was in a black Ford Explorer with a possible WI plate of I60WER,” the Oct. 15 tweet stated. “If you have any information, please call 911 immediately.”
Endangered Juvenile, Jayne Closs from Barron, WI, may have been seen in the afternoon of 10/15/18, in the area of N.W. 27 Ave and 11 St. If it was her, she was in a black Ford Explorer with a possible WI plate of I60WER. If you have any information please call 911 immediately. https://t.co/BX6ouqPDKi

In a press release posted to Facebook on Thursday, Oct. 18, the Barron County Sheriff’s Department revealed they’ve “received over 800 tips since Monday at our Command Center.”
That said, investigators do not yet have any suspects, but they have enlisted the help of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children as well as the FBI, which has agents who specialize in missing children cases. Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald said in a news briefing earlier this week that Jayme is not considered a suspect in her parents’ deaths but that she was most likely in the home when they were killed.
“We believe Jayme was in the home at the time of the homicides and we believe she’s still in danger,” the sheriff said, three days after the horrific crimes, according to ABC Action News. Still, he doesn’t believe she’s been killed. “[There’s a] 100 percent expectation that she’s alive,” Fitzgerald said.
In a statement to WQOW News 18 on Monday, he added, “We’ve searched the area around the residence to make sure she didn’t just run outside [or] go into the woods. We’ve used drones, we’ve used infrared… we searched the school, we’ve met with her friends, we’re working very closely with the Barron Riverview Middle School where she attends school — we have officers there today. We’re working with anybody that may have any bit of information.”
