Season 2 of Making A Murderer will be released on Netflix on Oct. 19, three years after the premiere of the bombshell first part. Not much has changed since then; despite multiple appeals, Steven Avery and his nephew Brendan Dassey still sit behind bars, convicted of the murder of Teresa Halbach. One thing that is different is Steven’s new lawyer, a woman named Kathleen Zellner, who is at the center of Season 2. She fully believes Steven is innocent, and thinks that he will eventually be released and exonerated of the atrocious crime.

In the new season, Kathleen will be seen asking experts to take a second look at the forensic evidence, and trying to find the real killer. Though all that work, she insists she found “big, explosive evidence” that will clear Steven once and for all. “We believe the case will ultimately collapse when it gets to the higher courts within Wisconsin,” she told People.

Kathleen says that Steven “will die in prison before he would ever take a deal. That’s why I’m so positive that he’s innocent… That’s the strongest characteristic of someone who’s innocent: They’ll die in prison before they will admit guilt, and that’s Steven Avery.” Steven has always maintained that he had nothing to do with Teresa’s slaying, despite evidence found in his home.

In a new sneak peek at the upcoming Part 2, Kathleen sits down with Steven’s mom to promise that she’ll get him out, and reveal what he plans to do after prison. “I talked to him about where he’d go,” said Kathleen. “He talked about Michigan. You’d like that? Because it’s beautiful there.” His mom seemed to like the idea, laughing. “He can’t stay here,” she insisted, talking about Manitowoc Country, where he was originally convicted. Kathleen also mentions that he needs medical care, and she’s doing everything she can to keep his stress down until he can be released.

Tune in to the new season of Making a Murderer, dropping on Netflix on Oct. 19.
