Hollywood's Most Controversial Child Support Settlements

Celebrity divorces can be expensive, especially when one person makes far more money than their spouse, but the real money kicks in when it comes to child support requests. Some partners demand their kids be kept in the lifestyle they’re used to with their big-bucks ex, which has led to some intense legal battles with six-figure settlements.

Even for duos that aren’t married, child support still remains an issue. Actress Halle Berry has accused ex-boyfriend, former model Gabriel Aubry, of asking for exorbitant amounts of money for their daughter, Nahla, so he can live a lavish lifestyle he didn’t earn.

Kevin Costner

In July 2023, a judge ruled that the Yellowstone star had to pay a whopping $129,755 a month to support his three kids with ex Christine Baumgartner. (The 68-year-old has four other kids from previous relationships.) Christine initially asked for $240K a month, leading Kevin to fight back. Citing the end of his Yellowstone contract, he argued that he can’t “afford to pay those amounts and pay my living and business expenses without liquidating assets.”

Halle Berry

For years, the mom of Nahla, 15, has tried to get the $16,000 she shells out each month to ex Gabriel Aubry reduced. “The way many laws are set up, people are allowed to USE children in order to be awarded money to live a lifestyle that not only they did not earn, but that is way above and beyond the child’s reasonable needs,” the 57-year-old griped. “And that is ‘THE WRONG’ and where I see the abuse.”

Ka-ching! The settlement for the rapper’s 2022 divorce from Kim Kardashian included the stipulation that the 46-year-old had to pay $200,000 a month to support their four kids, North, 10, Saint, 7, Chicago, 5, and 4-year-old Psalm, and is responsible for 50 percent of their education and security costs. Yet the pair continue to squabble about coparenting. “I do have a voice,” Kanye has said. “But I had to fight for it.”

Mel Gibson

He paid up — and ordered her out! In 2016, the dad of nine agreed to increase his payments for Lucia, the daughter he fathered with Oksana Grigorieva in 2009, from $20K to $30K a month. In exchange, however, the 67-year-old booted his ex out of his $2.4 million home. It could have been worse: The Oscar winner had to shell out more than $400 million in his divorce from first wife Robyn Moore!

Marc Anthony

“My relationship with Marc is perfect,” Dayanara Torres, the singer’s first wife and mom to sons Cristian, 22, and Ryan, 20, has said. “He is a great father to the kids. They adore him.” Things weren’t so peaceful in 2014, when the former Miss Universe demanded their support be upped from $13,400 to $123,426 a month and claimed the 54-year-old had only seen his sons 35 days in a year. (A judge ruled he had to pay $26,800.)
