Finding meaning after loss. Since Granger Smith and his wife, Amber, lost their three-year-old son River back in June, the couple has been very open about their grief. Amber recently shared how she is reminded of her son every day on Tuesday, September 11.

I’ve been digging in and putting all of my trust in God to carry me through. My heart has been broken open like never before, but that also means it’s been opened to love, feel, and grow more than ever before as well. —— I believe in God’s promises and the truth. I believe things are set in motion years before we see them. People are sent to us, we have visions or dreams, occasions occur all before we even have a clue about what is going on. God prepares our hearts without us knowing anything about it. I’m not saying he causes things to happen, but he knows, he allows, and he’s there holding us when we can’t walk. ——— I believe in signs, though he doesn’t need to send them, I’m so grateful he does! I’ve shared some of the signs I’ve seen with you guys and wanted to share something else I saw yesterday. I was looking at phots of Riv, which I do allll the time. It helps me feel closer to him. I came across this one of some signs I made probably 2 years ago. Riv was sitting on them and I wanted to re-read the verses. Some people may say this is just a coincidence, but for believers, there are no coincidences. I think this was God reminding me of his promises. It was something I was meant to see and the comfort it brought me was palpable. ❤️ Swipe to read them ✝️

“I was looking at photos of Riv, which I do allll the time. It helps me feel closer to him,” the mom wrote. She continued to detail how she receives signs of his presence and sometimes from the photographs she sees. This time, her signs from above were cemented in actual signs River had played with just two years prior. “Riv was sitting on them (the signs) and I wanted to re-read the verses. Some people may say this is just a coincidence, but for believers, there are no coincidences. I think this was God reminding me of his promises. It was something I was meant to see and the comfort it brought me was palpable.”

Amber took to her Instagram Story to share yet another sign from her son. “I was in Germany with Granger a couple days ago and I was thinking, ‘Gosh I wish I could just see Riv in a dream and he would tell me he is ok,’ ” she continued. “The next morning a good friend from high school messages me this … ”

The message read, “You know I’ve always had detailed dreams and last night I had a dream about Riv. He was sitting outside, and I asked what he was doing, and he said, ‘tell my momma I’m ok.’” On a screenshot of the exchange, Amber wrote, “sometimes God works through other people.”

River passed away on June 6, due to an accidental drowning at the family’s home in Georgetown, Texas. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Smith family as they continue to find the light during this dark time.
