Nothing can prepare a mother to deliver this kind of news. We’ve lost our youngest son, River Kelly Smith. Following a tragic accident, and despite doctor’s best efforts, he was unable to be revived. Granger and I made the decision to say our last goodbyes and donate his organs so that other children will be given a second chance at life. Our family is devastated and heartbroken, but we take solace in knowing he is with his Heavenly Father. Riv was special. Everyone that met him knew that immediately. The joy he brought to our lives cannot be expressed and his light will be forever in our hearts. If there are words to say more, we cannot find them in this moment. Love the ones close to you. There has never been a more difficult moment for us than this. . . In lieu of flowers or gifts, please send donations to Dell Children’s Medical Center in River’s name. The doctors, nurses and staff have been incredible.

“Following a tragic accident, and despite doctor’s best efforts, he was unable to be revived. Granger and I made the decision to say our last goodbyes and donate his organs so that other children will be given a second chance at life,” the mom explained with a heavy heart.

Amber mentioned that their entire family is “devastated and heartbroken,” but “we take solace in knowing he is with his Heavenly Father.” She then took a moment to gush about her sweet boy. “Riv was special. Everyone that met him knew that immediately. The joy he brought to our lives cannot be expressed and his light will be forever in our hearts.”

The country crooner’s wife admitted that they’re still at a loss for words over the grief. Amber added, “Love the ones close to you. There has never been a more difficult moment for us than this.”

The family has a special request for anyone wishing to extend their condolences. “In lieu of flowers or gifts, please send donations to Dell Children’s Medical Center in River’s name. The doctors, nurses and staff have been incredible,” Amber noted at the end of the post.

Fans rallied to send well-wishes to the hurting parents. “I’m so sorry. I’m praying so hard for you guys,” one follower commented. Someone else wrote, “My heart is aching. I can’t imagine the [unbarable] pain you guys are going through … What a special gift he is giving to so many others.” People wanted to lend their support. A separate user added, “I can’t imagine what you are going through and no words will explain it but know you are not alone.”

Our thoughts go out to the Smith family during this tragic time.
