Get it, girl! Gabourey Sidibe just keeps getting more glam, and she showed up and showed out on the red carpet in March rocking a stunning afro, royal blue gown, and some sexy curves. She's certainly lost a lot of weight over the last few years and is now thinner than ever — but don't tell her that! The Empire star told ABC News’ Robin Roberts in 2017 why compliments on her weight loss are the "the weirdest thing in the world."
“You don’t need to congratulate me on it,” the Precious actress told Robin in an episode of the Good Morning America host’s podcast Everybody’s Got Something. “You don’t congratulate me every time I blow my nose. I needed to. It’s my body,” she continued. “Mind your own body.” The thing is, she wants to be recognized for her talent, her voice, and her work, not her curves.

I wore a dresss by @madam_wokie with jewels by @nashellejewelry and @sacred_jewels yesterday’s @essence’s #blackwomeninhollywood brunch! My hair was a mix of an Afro wig I stole from the set of Empire because Alfre Woodard told me to, along with some inspiration from my friend @tarhondajay and it was made possible by my hair stylist @misscopeland310. The makeup with this dramatic eye and purple lip, is the art of @tobyfleischman and my stylist @themarcyminute helped me put this entire look together and it’s my favorite look, possibly ever!
Although Gabourey recognized “that people are coming from a good place,” she considers the admiration to be “so misogynistic.” “We tell women what they need to look like, and what they don’t need to look like,” she explained. “There are plenty of like fat guys or whatever, and no one has ever written think pieces about why they need to lose weight. No one’s ever going to accuse them while they were, you know, on a show promoting their film, that they’re actually promoting an unhealthy diet.”
The Empire star detailed the journey in her memoir, This Is Just My Face: Try Not to Stare. “My surgeon said they’d cut my stomach in half. This would limit my hunger and capacity to eat. My brain chemistry would change and I’d want to eat healthier. I’ll take it!” she wrote. “My lifelong relationship with food had to change.”
In May, the 34-year-old took to Instagram to flaunt her incredible weight loss transformation in a super sexy red bikini. "I'm screaming!!!! You look so cute! Love it! Love it," someone commented. "You look fabulous darling!" Another agreed. A third chimed in with, "This swimsuit on you is EVERYTHING!" We definitely have to agree — you're an inspiration, Gab!
