Wait a Minute… Apparently Derick Dillard and Jill Duggar Actually Don’t Think Drinking Alcohol Is a Sin!
There are a lot of things the Duggar/Dillard family does because the bible told them to, like hating on gay and trans people, dressing modestly, and having tons of kids. But surprisingly, being sober isn’t one of them! Fans always assumed that Derick Dillard and Jill Duggar (and all of the Duggars for that matter) don’t drink alcohol because it’s a sin, but when a fan asked about it on July 3, Derick blew our minds by revealing that’s not the case!
“If Jesus’ first miracle was turning water into wine, why are you not allowed to drink alcohol responsibly? This has never made sense to me,” a fan commented, after Jill posted a video from her anniversary with Derick where they drank sparkling juice rather than wine or champagne. “Where did you read that? I don’t think we’ve ever said that,” Derick responded. “We don’t believe the bible teaches that drinking is a sin.”
So then why don’t they do it? Besides Jessa and Jill confessing that they’ve accidentally had alcoholic punch in the past, we’ve never exactly seen them popping bottles. Well, Derick cleared that up, too. “[The bible] does warn against/condemn other aspects of alcohol,” he explained. He doesn’t further elaborate, but we bet it has something to do with “impure thoughts and urges,” per usual.
Back on Valentine’s Day, fans actually thought Jill and Derick were indulging in some wine when they saw a photo of Derick pouring something from a bottle. Detective fans later figured out that it was just sparkling grape juice, but it’s interesting to know that it’s actually not impossible. If Jill can break the no-pants rule, maybe one day she can have a glass of champagne, too.
