Ben Affleck Admits to Sobriety Slip: ‘It Happens, But I’m Not Going to Let It Derail Me’

After Ben Affleck appeared drunk as he left the UNICEF Masquerade Ball in West Hollywood on Saturday, October 26, the actor acknowledged that he is going to try to learn from his previous mistakes. “Well, you know, it happens. It’s a slip, but I’m not going to let it derail me,” the 47-year-old told cameramen outside of Jennifer Garner’s house on Sunday, October 27 — just one day after the party. The photographers then asked Ben if he would check himself into rehab, but he didn’t respond and walked away.

The Justice League star looked casual in jeans and a gray long sleeve shirt and seemed to be in good spirits as he held a coffee in his hand and made his way up the driveway. Despite being out late the night before, Ben looked happy to be reunited with his ex-wife and two of their three kids — Seraphina, 10, and Samuel, 7. The California native smiled for the cameras as Jen, 47, lit some jack-o’-lanterns on their front porch.

Unfortunately, the Hollywood A-lister partied a little too hard at the Halloween bash, where he wore a dark purple suit with a black button-down shirt in addition to a white skull mask over his face. As he was waiting for his car to pick him up, Ben looked like he couldn’t keep his balance, according to video footage obtained by TMZ. In the clip, Ben stood in front of a black SUV, where he had his arms wrapped around a mystery woman. The Good Will Hunting alum leaned on her, but when she walked away, he couldn’t stand on his own and stumbled backward and forward. Ben ultimately was able to get in the vehicle on his own.

Just hours before the event, Ben got candid about his sobriety and dating again in an Instagram message. “HA, you got me. I’m dating,” he began on October 26. “But let’s be serious for a moment and talk about something that is actually important. I have been in recovery for over a year and part of that is helping out others. @themidnightmission is an incredible organization that helps those in need with housing, training, development and recovery. I’m making a donation today because there are people battling addiction every day that don’t have the resources and need help.”
