Ben Affleck Breaks His Silence After Rehab Stint With Emotional Statement Thanking Fans For Their Support
He’s speaking his truth. Ben Affleck opened up about his struggles with alcohol addiction in a vulnerable statement shared to Instagram on Oct. 4. The actor broke his silence following his 40-day stint at The Canyons in Malibu to thank friends, family, and fans for their continued support during this tough time in his life.
“This week I completed a 40-day stay at a treatment center for alcohol addiction and remain in outpatient care,” the actor’s heartfelt message began. “The support I have received from my family, colleagues and fans means more to me than I can say. It’s given me strength and support to speak about my illness with others.”
“Battling any addiction is a lifelong and difficult struggle. Because of that, one is never really in or out of treatment,” the 46-year-old continued while talking about his third stint in rehab. Ben explained: “It is a full-time commitment. I am fighting for myself and my family. So many people have reached out on social media and spoken about their own journeys with addiction. To those people, I want to say thank you. Your strength is inspiring and supporting me in ways I didn’t think was possible. It helps to know I am not alone.”
“As I’ve had to remind myself, if you have a problem, getting help is a sign of courage, not weakness or failure,” the Batman v. Superman star concluded his emotional statement. “With acceptance and humility, I continue to avail myself with the help of so many people and I am grateful to all those who are there for me. I hope down the road I can offer an example to others who are struggling.” Several fans sent the actor supportive messages in the comment section, rooting for his health and well-being.
Ben’s estranged wife, Jennifer Garner, also is in full support of him getting the help he needs. As you may recall, she drove Ben to rehab herself on Aug. 22. The actress filed for divorce in April of last year and the former power couple has been separated since June 2015. As of Oct. 4, Jen has reportedly filed new documents with the hopes of having all the paperwork settled by the end of the year to finalize their divorce. Ben’s main focus is getting well for the sake of their daughters Violet, 12, and Seraphina, 9, and son Samuel, 6. We’re wishing him the best.
