The cast of Baywatch.
But, with the release and hype of this new addition to the Baywatch franchise, it got fans thinking about the original TV series that aired between 1989 and 2001 and starred such A-listers as Pamela Anderson.
And Baywatch alum David Hasselhoff has even commented on the release of the new film.
“It’s funny, it’s pushing the envelope, but it’s not Baywatch – and I say that with a great amount of respect but a great amount of work that I put into Baywatch,” the 64-year-old said to Mirror. "I think they said, ‘We have the rights to do Baywatch and we’re gonna do it our way – and everything else is the highway.’ I had to accept that.”
Though the Hoff is clearly put off a bit by the new film, he is still an active participant in the making of it, even making a cameo.

Great therapeutic way to end a very tough and emotional week. We blew off lots of steam. Thank you guys so much for the outpouring of luv, support and condolences. Means so much to me and our family. In the wake of any death, we gotta live as greatly as we possibly can, hold onto our faith, be grateful for every blessing and hug and protect our loved ones just that much tighter. You guys have a great Sunday and let's have a productive week. Thank you again. Grateful for the luv. Luv u back. 🤙🏾
“It’s either cry about it and watch it on TV or get in there and do what I can to make my moment,” he said. “I saw the movie and I said, ‘This is gonna make a lot of money – but it’s still not Baywatch’. You can’t recreate David Hasselhoff.”
While we agree that no one can recreate David Hasselhoff’s iconic role as Mitch Buchannon, The Rock is sure going to do his best!
