It’s back! Oxygen Media, the network for high-quality crime programming, launches the 24th season of the critically-acclaimed franchise Snapped with the infamous case of Amy Fisher and Mary Jo Buttafuoco. It was the scandal that rocked a quiet town in Long Island, NY, and now Mary Jo is telling all about that fateful day that her husband Joey Buttafuoco’s teenage mistress, Amy, shot her in the head in cold blood right at the front door of their family’s home. “That was the biggest news in town that day,” Mary Jo said in an exclusive sneak peek. “This was my journey, and during the course of it, I did a lot of things wrong, I made a lot of mistakes, I tried to do the best I can. Nobody told me, ‘Okay Mare, this is what happens when somebody comes to your house and shoots you in the head.’ Everything that was before, was then over.”

It’s been more than 25 years since the scandal, but true crime aficionados can still remember the details. Amy was just 16 years old at the time, and she had started an affair with Mary Jo’s husband, Joey, after Joey helped fix the car Amy’s parents bought her for her birthday.

As their affair went on, Amy grew increasingly jealous of Joey’s wife, so she devised a plan that would allow her to have Joey all to herself — she would kill Mary Jo. But somehow, Mary Jo miraculously survived the shooting and she was able to live to tell her story.

During Oxygen’s Snapped, experts will break down how a shadowy affair led a jealous teenager to commit a brash act of violence, and after 25 years viewers will hear from the surviving victim herself as she sheds light on her side of this notorious scandal that rocked America. Other upcoming episodes will delve into other infamous cases like Angela Ferguson, Angelina O’Mara, and Julene Simko.

Be sure to catch the Amy Fisher and Mary Jo Buttafuoco episode of Snapped, premiering on Sunday, Aug. 19  at 6 p.m. ET on Oxygen.
