She may be used to the mommy-shaming, but that doesn’t mean she’s a fan of it. On Saturday, November 16, Amy Duggar opened up about what it’s like dealing with the constant criticism. After sharing a photo of her new doormat — one that adorably reads, “Shhh … Daxton’s sleeping,” as a tribute to her new son — the mom got a fair amount of hate. When one fan tried to stand up for her, the TLC star eventually admitted that learning how to cope with the comments has just become a normal part of her life.

“It’s not cool to have a doormat that has your baby’s name on it,” cautioned one fan. “There are some creepy people out there.” A second agreed, continuing, “If you live in a neighborhood or apartment, this is just announcing to potential creepers that you have a baby, and they know its name. It could be dangerous for that kid, especially as it grows up. It’s sad we even have to think that way, but with the way the world is today, you have to look out.” Another had a different critique: “I say get him used to noise. But that’s just me. I could vacuum under my kids’ cribs and they wouldn’t wake up.”

After seeing everyone else weighing in on the star’s parenting choices, one of her followers took the opportunity to stand up for her. “I honestly can’t believe the rude people commenting telling you what to do,” they wrote on the post, encouraging Amy, 33, to ignore it. “In one ear, out the other!” In response, the new mom shared, “It’s something I’m used [to]. It’s just part of being in the public eye. I try to be respectful and kind, but at the same time, I will be true to myself!” That sounds like the perfect way to handle it, Amy.

Of course, the Counting On and 19 Kids and Counting alum has years of practice of dealing with people who watch her family’s show sharing their opinions about her personal life. Recently, however, she took it upon herself to let her followers know that, regardless of what anyone else thinks, it’s still OK to be honest about who you are — and the fact that you’re not perfect. On November 5, she opened up about just that while describing the differences between what’s on Instagram and reality.

“Pretty poses, makeup and photo shoots are great, but it’s not real. Life isn’t perfect, and I don’t want the people who follow me to think that!” she wrote. “So, this is the real me in real-time living my best life! Hot tea in hand, ice water leaned up against me, half dressed and completely worn out!” The photo the beautiful mama shared — captured by her own mama who was on-hand to help — showed just that as she seemingly napped on the couch while breastfeeding her new son.

Though the moment was ripe for mommy-shamers to jump in and share their two cents, most fans were grateful to get a glimpse into what Amy’s actual life is like. “I love this so much,” one wrote. “Postpartum at its finest!” added another. “Enjoy that fourth trimester even if it’s super exhausting!”
