She may have married a younger man, but 90 Day Fiancé star Molly Hopkins says she’s no cougar! Or, at least, she’s not a “desperate” one. In a new interview with Newsweek, the TLC star opened up about what her life is like now after her divorce, all the changes she’s been through, and what she wants to be remembered for. We met Molly on season 5.

At the time, she was engaged to Luis Mendez, a man about 15 years her junior from the Dominican Republic. Their age gap added an additional hurdle to their relationship.

They were a mess.

But by the end of the 2017 season, the then-41-year-old Georgia resident had tied the knot with her much younger man. Of course, it didn’t take long for their marriage to completely fall apart.

The divorce didn’t take long.

Within weeks of the season 5 finale, they were hinting at a split on social media. And then Luis got explicit, telling one fan who asked for his Snapchat handle in January 2018, “I can’t give my social now [because] she is divorcing me, and I have to respect now, but when she [is] done [doing] that, I can give it.”

Molly, now 43, made it official.

In February 2018, fans finally learned that the star — who had legally taken her husband’s name — had officially separated on January 5, 2018, and filed for divorce on January 23. “The marriage is irretrievably broken with no hope of reconciliation,” read the paperwork.

Then things got really messy.

And fans had a first-row ticket to the show on the spin-off series, 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? Luis even accused Molly of committing domestic violence.

He made his claims on social media.

“She never [shared] the profits of the reality show. How materialistic and low class can someone be?” he claimed online. And then he took it a step further: “If you want to see all about domestic violence soon, follow this page it’s gonna post there.”

But Molly was moving on.

She wasn’t going to let her relationship with her ex hold her back, and she’s still not going to. In the Newsweek interview, she talked about what life is like after having starred on the show.

She doesn’t want to be remembered for that.

Instead, she’s hoping fans and followers focus on the other things she’s done with her life — like start her own company, LiviRae Lingerie. It’s an accomplishment she’s proud of.

And it’s something that’s all her.

“I want to be remembered for being a badass at bra fitting and helping women through troubled times,” she told Newsweek. “Not as some desperate cougar that married a boy from another country.”

That doesn’t mean she’s not dating, though.

In fact, just the opposite. She says she’s got a lot of romantic interests in her life. She may occasionally be a cougar, but she’s definitely not “desperate” — and she’s not going to fall for just anybody.

Men are flocking to her DMs.

“I get tons of DMs from people who are like, ‘You’re amazing. I want to marry you,'” she continued. “I’m just trying to keep it moving, trying to keep the suitors at bay.” However, she is letting one lucky man get to know her.

She’s got a new boo.

Though she’s protecting her new relationship by keeping it private for now, she describes her man as “fantastic” and smart. “[He has] a lot to bring to the table,” she said. “I’m pretty pumped about it, honestly.”

That’s not the only change she’s making.

She’s also been working hard on her figure and shedding weight like nobody’s business. In October 2018, she admitted she’d already lost over 40 lbs, and she’s continued to show off her fitness journey online.

She’s one of many 90 Day Fiancé stars going through body transformations, and she spilled her secrets to Newsweek. “I’ve always been challenged with my weight my whole life,” she said. “I’m a stress eater so if I’m happy or sad I eat.”

But she’s a new woman now.

“I don’t want to be unhealthy and I wanted people to see that you can lose weight the old fashion way,” she continued. “You don’t have to go and have surgeries and do all this stuff.”

Fans aren’t convinced it’s natural.

But she’s sticking to her guns, insisting that every pound she’s lost has been done the old-fashioned way. “I mean that’s the first thing everybody said, ‘Oh my god, she had liposuction.'” She joked, “I wish I could afford to take off from work for that long, that would be amazing.”

It’s all exercise.

She also credits cutting out dairy and the detox teas she’s promoted as helping her get fit. “I promise you, if I had surgery, I’d be coming out looking like a new person. You all might not even recognize me if I was gonna go there.”

She’s killing it lately.

We don’t think being known as a cougar is such a bad thing — but it’s clear this woman is all about hard work and waiting for what’s right. There’s nothing desperate about her.
