On Tuesday, Natalie Portman made her debut as a director at the Venice International Film Festival, presenting a short film called Eve. The movie, which is about a woman who is dragged along on her grandmother's date, stars Hollywood legends Lauren Bacall and Ben Gazzara. "The film was definitely inspired by personal experience and also all my friends, female friends, starting to define themselves in relation, and in reaction to, their mothers and their grandmothers," explained Natalie during a news conference. The actress also explained why she wanted to go behind the lens this time. "When you are an actor, of course you are creating something, but you are serving someone else's vision and ultimately it's someone else's creation," she said. "To have authorship... feels like a more adult job." Natalie is premiering another short film at the Toronto International Film Festival later this week and she'll be happy to know that early reviews on Eve are positive.
