Leah Messer Says Watching Her Daughters Play Sports Is “Bittersweet” Because of Ali’s Illness

For years, Leah Messer has been inviting fans to follow her daughter Ali’s health journey. On Teen Mom 2, we watched the gorgeous blonde take her daughter to countless doctor’s appointments and reveled in her joy as the seven-year-old made incredible strides when it comes to her health.

And now she’s sharing yet another update with her fans! On Instagram, the 25-year-old shared a picture of Ali and her twin, Aleeah (aka “Gracie”) playing softball and wrote, “It was a moment I had to capture! Ali girl on second base and Aleeah on first. Watching them play softball together is sooo bittersweet!”

It’s been several years since Ali was diagnosed with Titin’s Muscular Dystrophy — her condition is incredibly rare, as Ali is the only known case of a child with that particular form of MD. As it’s been explained countless times on the hit MTV reality show, Ali’s health will start to deteriorate as she gets older — and she’ll rely more and more on her wheelchair, meaning it’s less likely that she’ll be able to play sports next to her sister in the future.

Last year, Leah opened up about Ali being more dependent on her wheelchair in her day-to-day life — and revealed it was a great adjustment for her daughter.

“She is adjusting so well to having her wheelchair,” Leah gushed last May. “She uses it at school; I’ll take it with me to Gracie’s competitions. She uses it for music, to go up stairs, to go outside and play — to feel independent. She’s so much happier.”
