19 kids—and constantly growing!
Just weeks after Jessa Duggar announced her engagement to Ben Seewald, the couple are closer than ever—since he moved into her family’s Arkansas home!
While this seems to go against the family’s values—the husband- and wife-to-be are saving their first kiss for marriage, and only started holding hands after he popped the question—Duggar patriarch Jim Bob explained how it works.
“It has been really good. He has been able to spend a lot more time with Jessa and our family,” the 49-year-old shared. “We have a guesthouse in front of our house, with a shower and everything, separate from the main house.”
Jim Bob is more than enthusiastic about the situation, which isn’t surprising—considering it was his idea!
Jessa Duggar Shares Details of Her Engagement
In a clip for the upcoming season of 19 Kids and Counting, he explains how Ben was living four hours away—but he thought being in closer proximity could be beneficial to his relationship with Jessa.
So he didn’t only extend an invitation—he also offered him a job in the Duggar home!
“After Michelle and I were talking about it, we have so many projects to keeping the grass mowed to putting roof on a building, paperwork and things like that — and we asked him if he would be interested in moving up here so that Jessa and his relationship could be really accelerated,” Jim Bob says in the clip.
“He was all for it and his parents were happy about it.”

And they aren’t alone in their excitement—Jessa seems thrilled about the situation as well.
“I’m very excited that Ben is moving in today,” she says in the clip. “I think it will be awesome to get to spend more time with Ben and see him on a daily basis instead of once or twice a month.”
Even with their close quarters, the couple maintain the standards they set up for themselves when it comes to their intimate time.
As her dad explained, they are still joined by a chaperone when they go on dates—and a curfew has been set in place for when they must return to their respective bedrooms.
“It has just worked out great,” Jim Bob gushed. “It is a little more labor intensive for Dad.”
