Amicable exes! Zooey Deschanel‘s estranged husband, Jacob Pechenik, is speaking out after their split — just one day after she was spotted out holding hands with her new man, Property Brothers star Jonathan Scott.

“Everything is amicable and we have beautiful children together that are that way because we were the parents,” the 47-year-old told Us Weekly at an event for Alex’s Lemonade Stand in L.A. on Saturday, September 14. Jacob and Zooey, 39, share two children together: a 4-year-old daughter, Elsie, and 2-year-old son, Charlie. “We’ve been raising them and we’re going to continue to raise them and take great care of them.”

The film producer then shared an update on how he’s been doing since the couple split earlier this month. “I’m happy!” Jacob said.

On September 6, the former couple announced that they would be going their separate ways after four years of marriage. “After much discussion and a long period of contemplation we have decided we are better off as friends, business partners and coparents rather than life partners,” they said in a statement to Us Weekly. “We remain committed to our business, our values and most of all our children. Thank you for respecting our privacy at this time.”

Just one week later, Zooey was spotted out in public for the first time with her new flame, Jonathan. They held hands as they walked to Little Dom’s restaurant in Silver Lake, California on Friday, September 13. The same day as their outing, the HGTV star confirmed that he was dating someone new, but he seemed to want to keep the identity of his new lucky lady private.

“I am seeing someone,” the 41-year-old told Us Weekly. “I’m a very private person, so I don’t typically talk about that. It’s definitely special for me because I am the guy who raises the bar in what I’m looking for in a partner. I was caught a little off guard. It was definitely a pleasant surprise.”
