Our hearts broke for Kailyn Lowry when she revealed that her beloved dog Bear passed away. Pets are big parts of our lives, and it’s never easy to lose one. Now, though, the Teen Mom 2 star has revealed that she has a new furry friend. On Thursday, September 5, she introduced fans to her new dog, a Cane Corso she’s named Karma. Though the pup is undeniably cute, fans couldn’t help but notice that Karma’s ears were cropped — and they were quick to come for Kail because of it. On Wednesday, August 28, Kail, 27, revealed she’d had to put her Rottweiler down after he was facing some major health issues. “I think this is by far the worst week I’ve had in a long time,” she tweeted days before.

In memory of the pup, she shared photos of his life with her and her family on Instagram, including the day she and her oldest son picked him out of the litter. “Isaac has always been Bear’s baby,” she said.

Moving Forward

Though no one could replace Bear in Kail and her kids’ lives, she was ready to start looking for a new pup within a few days. And by Wednesday, September 5, she’d found just the one.

Grand Introduction

“Meet Karma,” the mom of three told her fans on Twitter as she presented the pup in a serious of pictures. On her Instagram Story, she share the news of her new pet in an even more elaborate way.

Big Reveal

The star hosted a fake gender reveal for her fur baby, complete with pink balloons, a pink blanket and dog bed, all kinds of treats and toys and a banner that declared, “It’s a girl!”

Lots of Love

It’s clear Kail is already pretty much obsessed with her newest family member, and we don’t blame her. This is one seriously sweet pup. Just look at that little pink tongue!

Furry Friend

Kail’s other pet, a French Bulldog named Gizmo, didn’t seem to mind getting a new little sister either. “Safe to say he’s OK with it,” Kail joked as she posted a photo of her dog snoozing in Karma’s pink bed.

Interesting Observation

Fans, on the other hand, weren’t so accepting of the new animal. On Twitter, they were quick to point out that the Cane Corso puppy’s ears had been cropped.

Ear Issues

Though cropping a dog’s ears is tradition for the Cane Corso breed — and the Cane Corso Association of America has advocated for it — in general, the process is increasingly looked down on by pet owners.

Call Out

And those pet owners were quick to share their disapproval with Kail. “Has she had her ears cropped?” asked one fan, writing “[There’s] no need for it! Absolutely vile.”

Lashing Out

“Please tell me you didn’t clip his ears,” added another. “What’s wrong with you? I’m done.” A third weighed in, “That poor baby’s ears. SMFH. Anyone who crops their dog’s ears should have it done to them.”

The mom faced other criticisms, too. “Stop getting dogs that you’re never home to take care of,” one wrote in her Twitter responses. “So you’re replacing your dog,” accused another.

Explaining the Situation

Kail, however, is no stranger to hate — and she calmly addressed most of fans’ criticisms. “I’m sorry, is it a male Rottweiler named Bear? No. [Karma’s] an addition, not a replacement,” she wrote.

Addressing the Debate

Though Kail didn’t weigh in on whether or not she believes Cane Corsos should have their ears cropped, she revealed the decision was out of her hands. “Either way, the ears were cropped before I got her, so that was out of my control,” she said.

Pointing the Finger

But some fans blamed Kail regardless of that fact. “Beautiful dog and I have no doubt you’ll treat it well, but buying a dog with its ears cropped should be illegal,” one wrote.

That’s when Kail put her foot down. Though the organization she got Karma from seems to be a breeder rather than a rescue, she fired back, “A dog should be denied a home because someone had its ears cropped?”

“Buying a dog with cropped ears encourages breeders to carry on inflicting that pain on puppies. Just saying,” the fan responded, but by that point, Kail was over it. Instead of continuing to argue, she hopped off Twitter to give her new pup some much deserved love.
