Mariah Brown — the 21-year-old daughter of Sister Wives star Kody Brown and his wife Meri came out as gay during a Jan. 1 episode of the reality series.

In the episode, she gathered her family — including her father’s three other wives, Robyn, Janelle, and Christine — and revealed she identifies as a lesbian by simply telling them, “I’m gay.”

The revelation had her mother breaking down in tears, saying, “I did not see it coming… I thought I knew my daughter, I didn’t.”

The Brown family are devout Mormon Fundamentalists — and the religion does not approve of homosexuality. However, during a 2013 interview, the unique family revealed they’re accepting of gay marriage.

Robyn explained, “All adults should be able to choose who they love and how they structure their family.”

During the episode, Kody explained how he felt about one of his 18 children coming out.

“We’re not happy Mariah’s gay,” he said. “We’re happy Mariah knows herself.”

Mariah couldn’t help but feel the love from her family and fans alike.

“Wow okay y’all making me cry with your support,” she tweeted. “Thank you thank you thank you thank you.”

She also tweeted to a fan, who she seemingly inspired to come out.

“If you could be the only person that I’ve inspired to come out, that will have been enough,” she wrote. “Live your authentic life!”

Mariah is the only child of Kody and his first wife Meri, who was at the center of a scandal when In Touch exclusively revealed she was a victim of a “Catfish” after connecting online with someone who she believed to be a young man named Sam.

The scandal seemingly brought the family closer — and Mariah’s coming out is only one of the family’s many reasons to celebrate!

It was previously revealed that Janelle’s daughter Maddie is expecting — while Christine’s daughter Mykelti is engaged to be married.
