It’s been nearly three months since Matt Lauer was fired from Today and since then, more details about the disgraced host’s inappropriate behavior have emerged. Most recently, People reported that Matt once joked about sleeping with interns.

According to the mag, former Late Show with David Letterman writer, Nell Scovell, was asked to appear on the NBC morning show after she wrote an article about the show’s alleged sexual discrimination. In a chapter excerpted by Vanity Fair, Nell recalled an interaction she had with Matt after she turned down the network’s request for an interview.

“I finished writing my piece, ‘Letterman and Me,’ and it went live on vanityfair.com at 12 A.M. on October 27,” she wrote. “The next morning, I opened my laptop. My inbox was flooded. The story had been picked up by several websites, and requests for appearances came pouring in. I turned down the Today show, and then hours later, my phone rang. I picked up and heard a familiar voice.”

The 57-year-old said Matt was “smooth and charming” and tried to convince her to accept his offer and tell her side of the story. She told him, however, that she was hesitant because “people want to hear about interns in the bedroom, and I want to talk about gender in the writers’ room.”

She reportedly said, “You’re OK if I don’t discuss Dave sleeping with interns?” to which he replied with a laugh, “Hey, I couldn’t be held to that high standard.”

As a result, she declined a second time. “Matt’s ‘joke’ made me queasy,” she wrote.

The 60-year-old’s co-anchor, Savannah Guthrie, broke the news that he had been fired for sexual misconduct on Nov. 29, 2017, and after reading a statement from NBC News chairman, Andi Lack, she said, “This is a sad morning at NBC News… We just learned this moments ago. Just this morning. As I’m sure you can imagine, we are devastated and we are still processing all of this.”

Hoda Kotb has since joined Savannah as the new co-host — making Today show history as the first female duo on the morning program. Savannah said of her new partner that “something really lovely and positive has happened.”
