At just age 25, Manny has turned himself into a major social media star, creating vivid (not to mention gorgeous!) makeup looks for viewers, in addition to vlogging about his day-to-day life. His career has been on the fast-track in recent years, and here's what you need to know about the makeup connoisseur:
1. He Became Obsessed With Makeup as a Child
Manny's love affair with makeup began almost two decades ago. In an interview with Teen Vogue, he admitted his fascination with cosmetics started while watching his mother get ready, whom he considers his beauty icon.
"As a child, I would watch my mom get ready for work and just sit there for hours watching her transform," he said. "However, it wasn't until much later on that I really started to dabble in makeup myself."
2. He Quit Medical School to Pursue a Career in Cosmetics
Manny kept his love of beauty a secret as a teenager, and his decision to leave medical school caused some tension within his family due to "misunderstanding and miscommunication."
The makeup guru decided to go for his passion, and he eventually worked with makeup retailers Sephora and MAC in his hometown of San Diego. These ventures led to his increased presence on Instagram.
3. He Has His Own Eyeshadow Palette and Lip Kit
Last year, Manny teamed up with Makeup Geek to create his own limited edition eyeshadow palette. Filled with bronzey, neutral tones, the palette sold out within 20 minutes of its release. The colors ranged from bold mattes to pretty shimmers, meaning the color combinations were endless.
The beauty boy also collaborated with Ofra Cosmetics last year to create a trio of long-lasting liquid lipsticks. The collection featured three, pale pink shades that were designed to look fabulous on every skin tone. Like his eye palette, the lip set also sold out shortly after it's release.
4. He Was Raised in a Mormon Church and His Parents Outed Him as Gay
In an interview with Marie Claire, Manny recalled growing up in a household of "liberal mormons." In a lengthy YouTube video, which now has over 1 million views, the beauty guru said he started "liking boys" during the transition from junior high to high school.
He recalled being "terrified" of being gay and even prayed to stop it. He stopped attending church after his parents outed him, and they sent him to counseling to "reverse the effects of being gay." The counseling caused Manny to suffer from depression, but his parents eventually accepted him for who he was.
