Good for them! When Kim Kardashian West and Kendall Jenner were seemingly laughed at during their presentation speech at the 2019 Emmys, they didn’t take it personally. An insider told Us Weekly that Kim, 38, and Kendall, 23, “were not briefed” about what they were prompted to read as being “a joke” at all. But they took it in stride.

“It was definitely a bit awkward,” the source claimed. But another insider added, “Kim and Kendall were good sports about it. The line was supposed to be funny. They weren’t bothered by people laughing.”

They were there to give out the award for Best Reality TV Show Competition. At first, Kim said, “Our family knows firsthand how truly compelling television comes from real people just being themselves” before Kendall added, “Telling their stories, unfiltered and unscripted.” But it sounded like the crowd started to laugh after Kim began and even as Kendall spoke.

After the strange incident, fans took to social media to defend the reality stars. “#Emmys @KimKardashian @KendallJenner The fact that they will turn your laughs into millions of cash is funnier. You look so stunning Kim and Kendall. Highest paid model and Highest paid reality star,” one person wrote. Another said on September 23, “That video of Kim and Kendall is not funny at all. People who laugh are actual assholes. You do realize that they were born into this life right? And just because you don’t think they’re ‘real’, doesn’t mean you have the right to laugh at them. F–k y’all.”

The laughs could have been because some people believe Kim and Kendall’s family’s reality TV series, Keeping Up With the Kardashians, is actually scripted, mostly by their “momager,” Kris Jenner. Whatever the reason for it, it sounds like the two didn’t take strong offense to people seemingly laughing at their expense.

One person who didn’t end up getting laughed at during the show was Kim and Kendall’s sister, Kylie Jenner, but it was a close call. She was supposed to present the award with her siblings but had to miss it because she was quite ill, according to Us Weekly. “She has been sick for days,” a source told the outlet. “She had to miss something else recently because of being sick too.” We hope she feels better soon, and we hope Kim and Kendall really don’t feel bad about their potentially embarrassing Emmys moment.
