While Duggar fans are over the moon that Joy-Anna Duggar gave birth to her and Austin Forsyth‘s first child — a baby boy named Gideon Martyn — there is still some mystery surrounding the TLC reality star’s pregnancy. The couple opted to deliver their baby going in a hospital, even though the famous family is known to have home births.

In a new webisode, TLC explained why Joy welcomed her baby in a hospital. The new mom attempted to give birth at home but dilated to only about six centimeters. She labored for about 20 hours before they discovered the baby was breech, and rushed her to the hospital for an emergency cesarean-section. Some fans have criticized the family for not taking Joy to the hospital sooner, but wthankfully she and Gideon are healthy post-delivery.

“At least she used a hospital. Baby had to have been to big for home birth,” one fan wrote. Baby Forsyth was born on Feb. 23, 2018 at 3:39 p.m., weighing in at 10 pounds, 3 ounces and measuring 22 inches in length. “We are blessed beyond measure with the arrival of our son, Gideon Martyn Forsyth,” they gushed to People. “Looking at our child for the first time was such an incredible moment! God is so good, and we are so thankful.”

The family, including cousin Amy Duggar, were quick to congratulate Joy and Austin on their happy news, but the photos turned out to be more of a bombshell than fans expected! Joy was seen laying in a hospital bed surrounded by machines and hubby Austin, happily gazed down at their new bundle of joy. That was the first time fans saw can clearly see that she did not have her baby in her own home, and fans couldn’t help but wonder if there was some sort of complication that forced her into a hospital.

“Welcome to the world precious Gideon. ? Congratulations Joy & Austin! #littlechunk #someoneneedstohaveababygirlsooninthisfamily,” wrote Amy, also making the brilliant point that every one of her cousins has had baby boys. Perhaps Joe and Kendra or Jinger and Jeremy will break the streak when they give birth later this year!

The blog Keeping Up With the Fundies also piqued fans’ interest when it shared some photos from Andrew Patton’s Instagram of the new addition, and the setting seemed to be a hospital. “It’s truly incredible when you grow up with, and walk through life with a friend you can call brother,” he captioned the image. “From riding the campaign trail, to standing by you on your wedding day, to holding [Joy’s] and your little baby boy! It’s been an honor and a blessing, and I’m looking forward to seeing where God takes our families these next few years. So extremely happy for you guys, y’all are going to make great parents!”

Joy-Anna and Austin got engaged in March and tied the knot in May — and before we knew it, the couple announced in August that they were expecting. This instantly sparked rumors that the couple engaged in premarital sex, though nothing has been confirmed.
