‘Love & Hip Hop’ Star Jonathan Fernandez Sets the Record Straight About His “Secret Marriage” (EXCLUSIVE)
Do not question his character! After surviving his first full season of Love & Hip Hop: New York as a full-time cast member, makeup artist Jonathan Fernandez is still extremely hurt by his alleged “secret marriage” scandal. Earlier in the season, his character came into question after his cheating ex-boyfriend Trent Crews turned around and revealed that Jonathan was married the entire time they dated — painting him as a cheater, too. But during part one of the reunion special, Jonathan announced that he is legally divorced and he exclusively chatted with In Touch to clear up any confusion about his past once and for all.
"You know, that’s the one thing that hurt me more than anything the whole season," Jonathan exclusive revealed to In Touch about the way his marriage came to light. "What hurt me was that Trent acted surprised. He acted like he didn’t know — he did know. But he presented it to the world like it was something that he was exposing of me, like 'You have your secrets, too.'"
Jonathan explained that when he got married, gay marriage had just been legalized about three months before he tied the knot to a person he described as his best friend. "He’s a hopeless romantic just like I am," he said. "He proposed to me and I was like, 'You know what, yeah. Let’s give it a try.'"
Eventually, Jonathan and his ex-husband decided that they were better off as friends and they went their separate ways, and by the time Jonathan started dating Trent, he hadn’t been intimate with his estranged husband for about 18 months. But Jonathan said that Trent knew about the marriage and he knew that they were separated.
As of now, Jonathan was able to forgive Trent. "I think Trent is a very tender soul that’s also very scarred and I would love to build a friendship with him but I think Trent is one of those people that has a hard time trusting and once he doesn’t trust you, it’s hard to repair that with him," Jonathan explained. "That being said, I wish him all the best. We’re not together."
