Back in 2001, she claimed her “love don’t cost a thing,” but it seems these days that Jennifer Lopez is singing a different tune. Now that her boyfriend, Alex Rodriguez, is caught up in a child support battle with his ex-wife, Cynthia Scurtis, things are a little more complicated between the couple. Reports say that the former Yankees slugger is currently paying the mother of his two daughters, Natasha, 13, and Ella, 10, about $115,000 a month for child and spousal support, and apparently he wants to lower that amount dramatically now that he’s no longer raking in $30 million a year as a pro baseball player.

“J.Lo is trying not to get into the middle of Alex and Cynthia, and of course she thinks he should provide for his children, but she also doesn’t want him to be taken advantage of — and she made sure Cynthia knows it,” a source exclusively tells In Touch. With plans to marry in the future, Jennifer, 49, believes Alex’s money will be hers and, more importantly, hers will be Alex’s. The thought that they could still be dealing with this for years to come as they co-mingle their finances makes her extra frustrated with Cynthia’s reported monetary demands.

“There’s no way in hell Jennifer is going to foot the bill for any man’s ex-wife,” continues the insider. So now Jennifer’s pumping the brakes on walking down the aisle with Alex, 43, while he dukes it out with Cynthia. The situation is getting complicated, but it’s apparently a non-negotiable subject. If he wants to tie the knot with his new girlfriend, he has to tie up all of the loose ends with his ex-wife.

“Jen flat-out told him that he needs to take care of his finances before she marries him,” says the insider. “She’s not sure what he’s going to do, but she knows her hard-earned money won’t be going to Cynthia!”
