1D Drama? Louis Tomlinson Tweets ‘What A Hypocrite’ Following The Release Of Zayn’s New Song About A Broken Friendship
Gather around, Directioners, because the tea is boiling. As of late, Zayn Malik has been releasing songs leading up to his solo sophomore album, Icarus Falls. On Thursday, Dec. 6, he dropped “Good Years” and it doesn’t seem like it was received so well by someone in particular and that’s former bestie/bandmate Louis Tomlinson.
You may be wondering what the song has to do with Louis since it’s been nearly four years since Zayn left One Direction and left some friendships in bad terms. Well, it looks like the drama is never-ending with these pair of boyband alums because Zayn got personal on the nostalgic pop-driven single and it sounds like he could be hinting at his former friendship with Louis.
Some of the lyrics for “Good Years” are as follows: “I’d rather be anywhere, anywhere but here/ The voices screaming loud as hell/ We don’t care about no one else/ Nothing in the world could bring us down/ Now we’re so high among the stars without a worry/ And neither of one of us wants to say ‘I’m sorry.'”
Woah, that sounds oddly familiar. Back when One Direction were still together, they were on top of the world — they were constantly breaking records, earning more than a decent living, and partying like crazy, and during those years, Louis was his closest friend in the group.
A few hours after Zayn dropped the song, Louis took to Twitter to leave a mysterious tweet that many fans believe is about the track. “Proper confused. What a hypocrite!” he straight-up tweeted. It makes sense as to why the “Back To You” singer is puzzled, especially since Zayn keeps publicly talking about their fallout.

In a recent interview with British Vogue, Zayn got candid about his relationship with the former boyband. “Nah. I ain’t spoke to any of them for a long time, to be honest with you. That’s just the way it is. There’s things that happen and things that were said after I left… Snide things. Small things that I would never have expected,” he told the outlet.
He also admitted that he’s recently had a change of perspective, which points more to this track being about his former friends. “I’m able to look on it as something that was an amazing experience, which I was never even able to say until just recently,” he said about his time in the group.
However, their relationship has been a rollercoaster over the years. After feuding following Zayn’s departure from 1D, the two momentarily put their pride aside exactly two years ago when Louis’ mom’s passed away. Zayn reached out on Twitter and tweeted him, “@Louis_Tomlinson love you bro! All of your family is in my prayers. proud of your strength and know your mum is too x.”

A few months later, Louis revealed to The Sun that his mother’s dying wish was for him to fix things with Zayn. “My mum said, ‘You’ve got to get back in contact with Zayn. Life’s too f–king short,” he told the outlet and expressed the love he has for him. A lot has changed since then, but hopefully these two can patch things up once and for all.
