Former Miss New Jersey Cara McCollum in Critical Condition Following Car Accident
State police in New Jersey have confirmed that 2013 Miss New Jersey winner, Cara McCollum, was involved in a serious car accident on Monday night that has left her in critical condition.

Law enforcement officials tell the [Associated Press](https://hosted2.ap.org/APDEFAULT/4e67281c3f754d0696fbfdee0f3f1469/Article2016-02-16-US–Miss%20New%20Jersey-Crash/id-2a9f72b72bdc4f50b04bcd2b5b98cd18)_ that Cara was possibly speeding in her Ford Mustang before spinning off the road, hitting several trees and landing at the bottom of an embankment. She was taken to the hospital following the incident.
The report also notes the pageant star was driving by herself and was wearing her seat belt. At this time, police do not believe she was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident.

More recently, Cara worked as a news anchor on SNJ Today.
“Cara is a beloved member of our SNJ Today family. She and her family are in our thoughts and prayers,” the program stated on Tuesday.
