It is being reported that Avicii (real name: Tim Bergling) did commit suicide as his family hinted last week. According to new sources, the Swedish DJ allegedly took his own life using broken glass from a bottle to cut himself.
The shard of glass caused massive bleeding, TMZ reports, however there are conflicting reports on point of injury. One source is telling the outlet it was his neck, another claiming it was his wrist. Shortly after the 28-year-old's death, his family hinted Avicii may have comitted suicide. The family shared a heartbreaking statement with fans, revealing the musician was struggling to find the meaning in life.
"Our beloved Tim was a seeker, a fragile artistic soul searching for answers to existential questions. An over-achieving perfectionist who travelled and worked hard at a pace that led to extreme stress. When he stopped touring, he wanted to find a balance in life to be happy and be able to do what he loved most — music," the statement read. "He really struggled with thoughts about Meaning, Life, Happiness. He could not go on any longer. He wanted to find peace. Tim was not made for the business machine he found himself in; he was a sensitive guy who loved his fans but shunned the spotlight. Tim, you will forever be loved and sadly missed. The person you were and your music will keep your memory alive.
Avicii was found dead on April 20. His publicist confirmed the death in a a statement that read, "It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii. He was found dead in Muscat, Oman this Friday afternoon local time, April 20th." The statement continued, "The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given."
Avicii's family also released their own statement at the time, writing, "We would like to thank you for the support and the loving words about our son and brother. We are so grateful for everyone who loved Tim’s music and have precious memories of his songs. Thank you for all the initiatives taken to honor Tim, with public gatherings, church bells ringing out his music, tributes at Coachella and moments of silence around the world. We are grateful for the privacy during this difficult time. Our wish is that it continues that way."
His unexpected death came just days after he was nominated for a Billboard Music Award for Top Dance/Electronic Album for Avicii (01). He was nominated alongside his fellow EDM peers The Chainsmokers, Calvin Harris, and Kygo. Watch the video below for more heartbreaking details.
In 2016, the man behind hits like "Wake Me Up" and "Hey Brother" revealed he suffered from acute pancreatitis, partly due to excessive drinking. After having his gallbladder and appendix removed in 2014, he canceled a series of shows. "It's been a very crazy journey. I started producing when I was 16. I started touring when I was 18. From that point on, I just jumped into 100 percent," Avicii previously told Billboard. "When I look back on my life, I think: whoa, did I do that? It was the best time of my life in a sense. It came with a price — a lot of stress a lot of anxiety for me — but it was the best journey of my life."
According to WTOP, he made a promise to his fans last year to keep creating great music. "The next stage will be all about my love of making music to you guys. It is the beginning of something new."
