Former America’s Got Talent star Michael Ketterer was arrested on Thursday, Sept. 20 after an alleged felony domestic violence incident with his wife, according to multiple reports. Michael, who was a finalist during AGT Season 13, claimed the whole incident between him and his wife was a misunderstanding.

Michael, 41, and his wife had been allegedly fighting in their hotel room in Hollywood and when cops arrived, they claimed that Michael’s wife had a visible red mark, according to People. Because of the alleged injury, Michael was arrested and taken into custody for a felony domestic violence charge. He was later released after posting $50,000 bail.

But Michael claims that the entire incident was just a “misunderstanding.” He admitted that he and his wife did get into an argument and in their hotel room, and when the cops arrived, his wife allegedly said she did not want to press charges and the cops told him that they would need to take him in regardless. His charges will later be reduced to a misdemeanor because the alleged injury was minor.

Michael quickly became an AGT finalist during the audition rounds after he touched the judges’ hearts with his heartfelt story about raising six foster children and how important his big family is to him. Michael wowed judge Simon Cowell so much that he earned his golden buzzer and went straight to the live shows, and Michael’s quarterfinals performance brought Simon to tears.

Fans flooded Michael’s recent photo on Instagram — a sweet family pic — and many of them were shocked that a person who portrayed himself as a family man on TV could have been involved in such an incident.

“Can’t believe everything you see on TV…good guy? Hmmm,” one fan commented, and another wrote,  “What a sad twist to a great story! Very disappointing. Get help for whatever demons you have going on.”
