So sad. 90 Day Fiancé fans noticed something was a bit off with cast member Ashley Martson in her scenes with her fiancé Jay Smith from last night’s episode. Shortly after the episode aired, Ashley took to Instagram to explain why she looked under the weather, and she revealed that she suffers from lupus.

“A lot of people are asking why I look so sad and like I was crying for days in last night’s episode. This photo was taken hours before that filming. I had a reaction to a medication for lupus and my eyes and my neck were [completely] broke out,” Ashley, 31, wrote on Instagram. “They gave me steroids to help it, but it wasn’t completely gone. I was battling this the entire rest of the season so I just wanted to address it.”

This is the first time Ashley has opened up about her lupus diagnosis with fans, and it seems like she wanted to reveal the real reason behind why she looked down instead of letting fans wonder if she was just unhappy in her relationship with Jay. It also didn’t help that on top of her reaction to her lupus medication, she and Jay, 20, were going through a rough patch in their relationship and bickering a lot.

During the episode, Jay and Ashley fought over a few different issues: Ashley didn’t like that Jay was still messaging some of his female tattoo clients from Jamaica, she also didn’t like that he would leave late at night to make a fast food run without telling her where he was going, and Ashley also felt that she and Jay don’t communicate enough.

But it looks like the couple worked through all of those issues and now they’re still going strong. Over the weekend, Ashley shared a sweet message to Jay on Instagram. “Shoutout to this character for always putting up with my mood swings!” she wrote, “I love you even though you’re a total pain in my rear half the time.”
