Kandi Burruss is no stranger to the music scene, but now the Real Housewives of Atlanta star is adding another item to her resume: actress!
Kandi, 37, first rose to fame as a member of the girl group Xscape and eventually became a successful songwriter for other artists, winning a Grammy for penning the huge TLC hit "No Scrubs."
Her latest project is a musical called A Mother's Love. She and maybe-husband Todd Tucker produced the show, which stars Kandi in a role based on herself. It runs in Atlanta this weekend and could return if the test run goes well.
"Though things are exaggerated, you will see moments of my life in the musical," Kandi told theater website Broadway World. "Writing A Mother's Love has been therapy for me in many ways. I've had to focus and not only co-write the script which is loosely about my life but have also written twenty songs for the play in a very short amount of time which has allowed me to unload a lot of emotions inside of me."
The singer's relationship with her mom, known to RHOA fans as Mama Joyce, also plays a major role in the musical. This season, Kandi and Joyce have clashed about Kandi's engagement to Todd and his uncertainty about signing a prenup. Todd and Kandi reportedly had a secret wedding during a recent trip to Mexico, though neither has confirmed it.
