Party planner extraordinaire Mindy Weiss is the mastermind behind the weddings of stars like Nicole Richie and Joel Madden, Heidi Klum and Seal, and Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale to name a few. Now she is spilling some of her party-planning secrets as well as how to win a star-quality celebration to In Touch!
Location, location, location: After getting engaged, Weiss says the next step is picking a venue. “The venue governs the date and you can’t book anything until you have it,” she explains. When she was hired to plan Katy Perry and Russell Brand’s wedding in India, she traveled to the country twice in one month until she found the right spot.
Picture-perfect: Since the pictures are the only tangible things that will last long after the wedding party, Weiss recommends choosing the photographer carefully.
Don’t go overboard: “If it gets to the point where there is so much stuff that no one is going to see anything, I tell my clients, let's pull it back so people really appreciate what we have already put in,” advises Weiss.
Dress code: Weiss notes many brides are following in Kim Kardashian’s footsteps and asking guests to don only white or black to their weddings, but she isn’t a huge fan of the growing trend. “I really feel the bride should be the only one wearing white that day.”
Careful how you cut the cake: Weiss can tell if a relationship is going to last by how the couple cuts the cake. “If the groom throws cake in the bride’s face in a very aggressive manner with no regards to everything she put into looking beautiful, it is very telling,” she points out.
Bonus Tip: Enter the Rewrite Your Day Campaign to win a wedding planned by Mindy Weiss: “I joined the Rewrite Your Day Campaign to give back 15 events to people with chronic migraines who have missed their important life moments due to having a migraine,” she tells In Touch. The contest begins this week and lasts through December and the first few winners will be selected in October. So submit your story today to win the party of a lifetime planned by Mindy Weiss and her team.
