Eminem has broken his silence following the death of Curtis Hanson, who directed Em’s breakout film 8 Mile.
“Curtis Hanson believed in me and our crazy idea to make a rap battle movie set in Detroit. He basically made me into an actor for 8 Mile,” Em, 43, said in a statement to Billboard. “I’m lucky I got to know him.”

The late director — who won an Oscar for writing LA Confidential — was found unresponsive at his LA home on Tuesday, Sept. 20.
According to the police department, the 71-year-old died of natural causes. Our thoughts remain with his loved ones during this difficult time.
